Belgium's Paul Van Haver, known to the world as Stromae, born to a Rwandan father and Belgian mother, was raised in a poor neighborhood of Brussels but later attended the Jette Music Academy after failing out of the public school system. While working as a trainee at Belgium's national pop radio station NRJ, Stromae persuaded the station's music director to play his song "Alors On Danse". An infectious dance floor romper, "Alors On Danse" (So We Dance), is an ironic commentary on unemployment, divorce and general pessimism, calling for its listeners to ignore these problems and dance. The song was soon played by France's NRJ afffiliate, evoking reactions from high-profile listeners such as Anna Wintour, Jean-Cloude Vandamme and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The song hit #1 in 19 countries and launched Stromae and his special fusion of electronic, hip hop, Congolese rumba and salsa music onto a world stage.Stromae's sophomore album Racine Caree became one of Europe's most anticipated new releases. And anticipated it was... Racine Caree has already sold 1.5 million copies in France alone. "Papaoutai" is a Top 5 smash across Europe propelling album sales over 300,000 outside France. "Papaoutai" has already registered 102M video views with "Formidable" amassing 58M views of its own. His socials boast 3.4M FB likes, 635k Twitter followers, 630k YT subscribers and 199M views.Stromae has become an important artist in equal measures for his musicality, his imagery and his voice. As the International New York Times observes, "He is one of the few contemporary musicians to so directly evoke Europe's ambient moroseness, and he does so with an eclecticism that has earned him critical praise."For the US our next steps will include a potential remix/feature with a major US/UK artist. There should be significant interest from the music community as Stromae has already collaborated in various ways with artists such as Kanye West, Major Lazer, Black Eyed Peas and DJ Snake. A studio project with Avicii is in discussion for Avicii's remix album to be launched around Ultra Music Festival in 2014. Young The Giant will be performing "Formidable" when they visit the 3FM studios in Holland.
