The Sandy Springs Police Department was created in 2005, and serves the community with 127 sworn officers. Operations are coordinated from two districts; north and south. Each district is commanded by district captains and is comprised of four patrol beats. The patrol division is complemented by specialty units including Street Crimes Unit (SCU), Traffic Unit, Specialized Investigation Unit (SIU), and Criminal Investigation Unit (CID). The SSPD has several specialty vehicles and equipment including the river response boat, Rhino ATV units, river kayaks, Humvee for community events and an armored vehicle for tactical response.
