In the winter of 2011, Oklahoma had record snow fall; we missed more class than ever. One Tuesday, I took a video camera to class and asked a student to record the class. "Reality" accounting, I thought. As predicted, more snow came and classes were canceled. Students in Wednesday classes were encouraged to watch the video.Later when I asked for students' comments, one student said, "I was in class the day you videoed (meaning he didn't have to watch), but I watched the video anyway. It really helped." "Really? I thought it would be boring!""No, it really helped me," he said."How?" "Well, I could stop it, replay it until I understood it," he explained. Several other students made similar observations. I had no idea the videos would be so helpful to them. That semester lots of students missed class for valid reasons. At their request, I continued videoing lots of classes over these two years.M. Ray [email protected]
