The American "boy band" The Backstreet Boys originated out of Orlando, Florida in 1993. As one of the original boy bands, the singing group, which is made up of Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, A. J. McLean, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell, has claimed the spot as the best-selling boy band in history with over 130,000,000 records to date.The high energy group signed its first record deal with Jive Records in 1995. After some success releasing singles in Europe, the group went into the studio and recorded its debut album entitled Backstreet Boys (1996). The album hit #1 in several European countries, though not in the States. The 1997 album Backstreet's Back had similar success, and the group finally had its day with the release of the third album Millennium in 1999. The album debuted in the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart and also struck gold all over Europe. The album's top single "I Want It That Way" peaked at #6. The group's next two albums would also reach the top 5 in the US. Over the year's, the Backstreet Boys have picked up many awards including MTV Video, American Music and Billboard Music Awards. They continue to tour energetically and expand their loyal fan base.
